The pagtitipon art and history gathering is for kids (5-11 years old) and for women- and femme-identifying folks from the Filipina/x/o Hamilton community. This gathering is for us to reimagine communities, inclusion, and justice in the Covid19 pandemic and beyond. Side by side, kids will have an opportunity to join an art activity while the adults may want to submit an entry to the Women Writing Women event, to build the Filipina/x/o archives in the Hamilton Public Library. This is a self-directed letter writing to women in the future or their future selves on the said theme.
Before the gathering begins, participants will have the opportunity to join a FREE tour of the art gallery.
The art workshop is presented by the Hamilton Centre for Civic Inclusion and Mariam Assefa Fund through the #MahalagaKa Campaign in the COVID19 pandemic of the Filipinas of HamOnt, a fiscally-sponsored collective by the YWCA Hamilton, with workshop space generously provided by the Art Gallery of Hamilton.

Hi everyone! My name is Julia Espinosa (she/her) and I am in my fourth year at McMaster University as a History student, with a minor in Immigration, Race Relations & Indigenous Settler Relations. I am a first generation Filipina who moved to Canada when I was 3 years old. My family is from Cebu City, but I was originally born in Iligan City. I’m from a small town just 30 mins away from Hamilton called Grimsby, and have since grown up in Southern Ontario. I am passionate in learning, growing and working with other Filipina/o/x to stay connected to our culture!
