Let's explore digital archiving as a tool for activism. How do we define notability and credibility? Whose stories are being told? Join the conversation as we reflect on the purpose of Wikipedia and participate in an Edit-a-thon for the Filipino Canadians' Wikipedia page.
Date: Sunday, October 29
Time: 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. ET
Location: Hamilton Public Library Central (55 York Blvd. Hamilton, ON)
If you would like, please bring your own device to participate in editing the Filipino Canadian's Wikipedia page.
Note: Please sign up for a Wikipedia account a day before the event. (Create a Wikipedia Account. Indicate in the form, if you need support and we can virtually meet to help you set it up before the event)
We are sponsored by Art and Feminism. (Stylized as Art+Feminism) who started an annual worldwide edit-a-thon to add content to Wikipedia about women artists, in 2014. The project has been described as "a massive multinational effort to correct a persistent bias in Wikipedia, which is disproportionately written by and about men".
An edit-a-thon can be a scheduled time where people edit Wikipedia together, offline and/or online; typically focused on a specific topic, such as science or women's history; a way to give newcomers an insight into how Wikipedia works.
